Clouds gather around Hitzfeld

Bayern Munich coach Ottmar Hitzfeld is coming under fire from all angles after the worst week of his side´s season.

A 2-2 draw against Bolton Wanderers in the UEFA Cup was followed by a 3-1 Bundesliga defeat in Stuttgart, prompting club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to criticise Hitzfeld´s choice of tactics - and in both games general manager Uli Hoeness left the stadium without commenting, usually taken as an ominous sign.

President Franz Beckenbauer is also worried Bayern are "falling back into old times", but Hitzfeld insisted: "If we are in a crisis and are still top of the table, that is fine. Sometimes it is not all that bad to lose so heavily. Now everybody here knows they have to put in a bit more and no game is won all by itself."
