Lakers sign Upshaw

The LA Lakers have completed the signing of 7-foot tall center Robert Upshaw on a multi-year contract, and he will join the team in time to take part in their Hawaii training camp later this month.

Upshaw managed 4.5 blocked shots a game prior to his dismissal from the University of Washington’s team last year and caught the Lakers’ attention after playing five games for their summer league team.

One thing’s for sure, and that’s that the franchise have to improve. Last term they recorded their worst campaign in their history, having finished 21 for 61.

Love return

Elsewhere, Kevin Love has said he will back with the Cleveland Cavaliers within six weeks, with his return from injury seemingly imminent.

Love has been missing since the Cavs’ playoff push in mid-April, but spoke recently on his return and said he is about a month away from the action.

49ers vs Vikings

Meanwhile in the NFL, young 49ers running-back Carlos Hyde scored two touchdowns as he and his teammates smashed the Minnesota Vikings 20-3.

Ahead of the game all the talk was of Adrian Peterson, but it was Hyde who hogged the limelight, also rumbling for 168 rushing yards.

Manning's back injury

Lastly, Peyton Manning has appeared in the Denver Broncos’ injury report with a back issue, following their clash with the Baltimore Ravens in week one.

Manning was far from his best during that victory, prompting yet more speculation that time may finally be catching up with him. One thing’s for sure; his latest back concern isn’t going to help matters.
