Radamel Falcao sends tweet to Luke Shaw after injury

Chelsea striker Radamel Falcao has become the latest big-name star to offer support to Luke Shaw on Twitter after the Manchester United left-back suffered a double fracture of the right leg on Tuesday night.

The England international has undergone surgery in Eindhoven - where he remains for the time being - and has received countless messages of support on social media from teammates, fellow professionals and fans on social media over the past 24 hours.

Falcao, who played alongside Shaw at Manchester United last season, knows all about lengthy injury lay-offs. The Colombia international suffered a serious knee injury in January 2014, missed the World Cup finals in Brazil that summer, and has not looked the same world-class striker since.

Tweeting in Spanish, before translating to English, Falcao wrote: “Mucha fuerza @LukeShaw23.Deseo que tengas una buena y rápida recuperación/Stay strong. All the best and recover soon.”

Manchester United fans appreciated Falcao’s message of support for Shaw, with many tweets featuring the word “class” left in the replies section.

Shaw can avoid same fate as Falcao

Although Falcao was a disastrous loan signing for Manchester United, fans respected the former FC Porto and Atletico Madrid striker because of his exemplary work ethic.

Falcao gave his all in a Manchester United shirt but, unfortunately, it didn’t work out for the South American at Old Trafford and Louis van Gaal subsequently rejected the chance to sign him on loan for a second season.

Shaw will be hoping that his serious injury doesn’t have a similarly negative effect on his own career.

However, 20-year-old Shaw has plenty of time on his side and will be looked after by some of the best medical staff in the world over the forthcoming months, so expect the England international to avoid the same fate as Falcao.
