Schaaf: We´ve taken step backwards

Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf was unable to hide his disappointment after his side let slip a one-goal lead to lose 3-1 to Olympiacos in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The hosts seemed to be on course for three points after Hugo Almeida´s 32nd-minute strike, but Ieroklis Stoltidis, Christos Patsatzoglou and Darko Kovacevic scored late on to earn the Greeks their first away win in the competition in 31 attempts.

"In the first half we showed the necessary patience against a strong defence, but we were only spectators in the second half and failed to take the fight to our opponents," the coach said. "Rather than taking a step forwards, we have taken one backwards."
