Manchester United striker Anthony Martial celebrated his first Man of the Match award by handing the trophy to his baby, Peyton.

Martial’s wife, Samantha, posted a photo on her Instagram account of their child alongside the Man of the Match trophy, which Manchester United’s new number nine won on Sunday afternoon after scoring two goals in a 3-2 win over Southampton.

Martial scored a goal either side of half-time, his second and third goals since completing his £36 million move from AS Monaco on transfer deadline day, to lift the Red Devils up to second place in the Premier League table.

Few predicted Martial would have such an emphatic impact on Louis van Gaal’s side in the early months of his Old Trafford career due to his tender age.

But the 19-year-old is already looking a surprisingly shrewd signing - even considering the huge transfer fee, which could potentially rise to £58 million based on future add-ons - and seems to have displaced Wayne Rooney as the team’s first-choice centre-forward.

Sensational start from Martial

Rooney has failed to score a goal in five appearances for United this season, £31 million Memphis Depay has not scored in his first six matches for the Red Devils, while Martial already has three goals in two Premier League appearances.

The recently-capped France international will be keen to continue his impressive recent run of scoring, and could add a few more to his tally against Ipswich Town in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night.
