Cristian Rodríguez believes his compatriot Luis Suarez is currently the best player in world football.

The common consensus is that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are fighting for the title of the world's best player, but Rodriguez has bucked the trend and said ex-Liverpool star Suarez is the cream of the crop.

The former Atletico Madrid man believes the Barcelona forward's all-action approach makes him harder to deal with than either of the aforementioned superstars.

Speaking to TyC Sports, as per Marca, the Uruguay international said: "Suárez is better than Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, that's the way I see it.

"He doesn't mess around, he bears down on you and takes players on like a street footballer, which is why for me he's the best in the world"

The 28-year-old joined the Catalan club after a successful three years at Liverpool and played a prominent role in helping the Blaugrana to a historic treble last season.

His 25 goals in 43 appearances were a vital part of Barcelona's success as his relationship with Neymar and Messi helped form the most fearsome attack in world football.

Suarez recently came second in the voting for Europe's best player of 2015, showcasing the standard of his performances last season.

However, it may be some time before he swoops for the Ballon d'Or, an award that Messi and Ronaldo have exchanged over the past seven years, with the Argentine winning it four times.

Despite being a proven goalscorer, his tallies are still some way off the astronomical levels set by the two powerhouses. But his unselfish nature and ability to bring his team-mates into play can not be undervalued.
