Spain moved level on points with Group F leaders Sweden on Wednesday night after easing past Latvia 2-0 in Oviedo.

Xavi Hernandez gave the Spanish a 13th-minute lead but, despite dominating possession, the hosts had to wait until four minutes from time to make the game safe when Fernando Torres slotted home their second goal.

Spain have now won five of their last six qualifiers - drawing the other - and climb into second spot in the standings behind Sweden and above Northern Ireland, who lost in Iceland.
