WWE: Who should be Finn Balor's next challenger?

Football News

Currently on NXT there are no superstars that stand out enough to show they deserve to challenge Finn Balor for the NXT Championship.

Over the last year or so, we’ve been very fortunate to witness some of the best championship matches. The reason for that is we’ve had plenty of contenders that have stepped up to the mark.

We’ve had Neville bring down Bo Dallas. Sami Zayn finally claimed the NXT Championship after a long and emotional journey before quickly losing it to Kevin Owens in explosive fashion. The likes of Tyson Kidd and Tyler Breeze have also played a huge part in the NXT Championship picture, whilst Seth Rollins and Big E have also held the title.

Ever since Owens dropped the championship to Balor, it does feel like we don’t have enough focus on the championship, or on potential contenders that could be a serious threat to Balor.

Balor is currently competing in the Dusty Rhodes tag team classic, teaming with Samoa Joe in the hope of competing for the NXT Tag Team Championships.

This has driven focus away from the NXT Championship, which isn’t a good thing. There’s a danger that Balor could potentially go down as one of the least effective champions since the inception of the title.

There are plenty of talented superstar on NXT who could go out to the ring tomorrow night and put on a great show with Balor.

It’s about earning an opportunity, here are the feuds I believe need to take place to get the best out of Balor as NXT Champion.

You could argue that Corbin doesn’t really deserve the chance to compete for the championship, but it could definitely be interesting.

Corbin is now a heel, and it’s clear the NXT fans despise him. This could work in Balor’s favour.

He’s loved by the NXT fans and to go up against the biggest heel, and a monster-like opponent in Corbin would be a huge coup for Balor.

It’s clear though that the match won’t be fantastic, it would be up to Balor to make sure the fans are invested in the match.

Regardless of this, I feel like this could be a big feud for Balor. He will have a big title defence in the bag and a win over Corbin would be good for him to move forward into a new feud as he would be the underdog in this situation.

This is probably the most likely to happen with the way the storyline is playing out.

Joe and Balor are currently teaming up in the Dusty Rhodes tag team classic, and many fans do believe that Joe will turn heel in the finals.

This would then set up an NXT Championship match between the two for NXT TakeOver: London.

This match is definitely one that fans want to see, and it’s probably the perfect feud for Balor right now. Joe is an established name in the wrestling industry and any match between the two would be amazing.

A victory over him would be massive for Balor, and add a little more credibility to his title reign.

Breeze has received a number of opportunities in the past but has always failed in his attempts to become the NXT Champion.

However, he is one of the most consistent performers on NXT and if there’s anyone you can rely on to put up a solid match and an entertaining feud, it’s Breeze.

He’s definitely capable of carrying the NXT Championship in a successful reign, and because he’s already achieved a lot on NXT, a feud with Balor would work.

He’s a great competitor, and he would definitely add value to a Balor title reign, win or lose.

The fans would also be interested in the great build-up that could be on the show.

I believe an Itami feud – upon his return – would make complete sense if Balor turns heel.

We still don’t know who attacked Itami months ago, and it would be a good reveal for Balor to reveal himself as the culprit.

A heel Balor as champion could definitely be the way to go on NXT, especially if the fans get tired of the same old routine.

This would help both stars even further, and we already know just how good their matches will be.

Engaging in a feud with Itami would be great for Balor, and could even go down as one of the best matches he has on NXT.

There still other options available for Balor, but are probably not as likely to happen as the ones above anytime soon.

The name on every fans’ lips is Apollo Crews. You simply have to watch him in action to understand how special he truly is. He’s definitely going to be the NXT Champion one day, and dethroning Balor wouldn’t be a bad way to do it.

This would be more like a Neville and Sami Zayn feud, where fans cheer for both men. The matches the two could put on would be fantastic and capable of appearing on any show.

Solomon Crowe will always be an option.

He too is a special talent, he’s very unique with his gimmick and his offence.

He’s definitely missing something right now which is stopping him from achieving the great things that were expected of him.

If he can build himself up as a contender, then he too could put on a great feud with Balor.

The biggest outsider would be Tye Dillinger.

He’s finally getting the credit he deserves and he’s found a gimmick that suits him.

If he’s able to continue impressing in the coming months, building an even bigger fan base then it would be difficult to ignore him. Like the rest, he too could perform very well alongside Balor in a championship match.
