Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal insists he doesn't need to use Jesse Lingard or James Wilson for his side's Capital One Cup clash against Ipswich.

The Red Devils begin the search for their first silverware since they claimed the Premier League in 2013 against Ipswich at Old Trafford, however the Dutch boss doesn't intend to field a younger team for the competition.

The likes of Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay are likely to start the game despite the Red Devils' weekend showdown with Sunderland.

Van Gaal told reporters yesterday: "Today they have had a recovery day and also tomorrow is more recovery but I don't need them [WIlson and Lingard]  so they can have a day off and then Thursday they will be fresh and can train."

There were reports that Wilson could leave the club during the summer transfer window and the Mirror say that 20 clubs wanted to take him on before the decision was made to remain at Manchester United.

That move could be backfiring though; Wilson hasn't started a game for Manchester United since the FA Cup clash against Cambridge United in January.

Daley Blind is expected to carry on at centre-back for the Red Devils against Ipswich, while Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Paddy McNair will miss out through injury.

Rojo, who missed most of pre-season after his participation in the Copa America but returned in the 3-2 win over Southampton where he picked up a hamstring injury. "I thought we were right on time for Rojo because we changed him in the Southampton game and he didn't warn us that he was injured," Van Gaal added.

Do you think Van Gaal should give his young players a chance against Ipswich?
