Arsenal hero Paul Merson admits he would swap either Theo Walcott or Olivier Giroud for Tottenham striker Harry Kane.

Naming his combined Arsenal and Tottenham best XI, ahead of this evening’s Capital One Cup third-round tie at White Hart Lane, the Sky Sports pundit selected Kane over both of Arsenal’s first-choice centre-forwards to lead the line.

"I don't think Kane is one-season wonder at all, he's another top player and if you offered me him for Giroud or Walcott I'd take him for sure,” the former Arsenal midfielder explained. "If you're a centre-forward you're only as good as those around you and that Tottenham midfield is not that good. At Arsenal he'd get 20-plus goals again this season for sure."

Kane scored a magnificent 31 goals in all competitions for Spurs last season - 21 of which were netted in the Premier League - and was subsequently linked with a big-money move away from north London in the summer.

However, the 22-year-old is still looking for his maiden club goal of the 2015-16 campaign, having failed to find the back of the net in his first six appearances for Spurs.

Harry Kane looking to break his duck

Kane was, however, able to showcase his finishing ability during the recent international break, when he scored his second and third goals for England against San Marino and Switzerland, respectively.

That’s not to say that Kane hasn’t been presented with chances to score for Tottenham this season, though. The Chingford-born striker has missed a couple of gilt-edged chances over recent weeks, but will be confident of going on a scoring run once he finally breaks his duck.

Harry Kane is the better striker

So, how does Kane compare to Walcott and Giroud this season?

Arsene Wenger can’t quite make his mind up over which of the two forwards is the better option at the moment and is subsequently rotating between the two.

Giroud has netted two Premier League goals this season, while Walcott - who is desperate to establish himself as Arsenal’s main striker - has scored one fewer than his French team-mate.
