Italy striker Alessandro Del Piero is close to extending his stay with Juventus.

The 32-year-old World Cup winner joined Juve from Padova at the age of 18 and since then he has been committed exclusively to the Turin giants. Juve managing director Alessio Secco made it clear he felt a new deal would soon be signed.

He told Sky: "We have taken a step forward towards his contract renewal with a first meeting between the parties. I think we will need another meeting to reach a definitive agreement."
