French league chief Frederic Thiriez has questioned the timing of UEFA´s decision to hand Raymond Domenech a one-game touchline ban following his comments alluding to match-fixing in Italian football.

Domenech was on Monday found in breach of UEFA´s disciplinary regulations after claiming in an interview with French daily Le Parisien on August 9 that a referee had been ´bought´ for a youth game between France and Italy in the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

He has been fined 6000 euros (£4000) and will be banned from the touchline for Les Bleus´ Euro 2008 qualifier against Italy on September 8.
