Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas has hailed his former Arsenal teammate Mathieu Flamini for his match-winning performance against Tottenham on Wednesday night.

Flamini scored both goals in the 2-1 victory at White Hart Lane to send the Gunners through to the Capital One Cup fourth round - and Fabregas, taking to Instagram a day later, was clearly impressed with what he witnessed from his old mate.

The Spain international posted a holiday snap of himself and Flamini, alongside the caption: “Follow my man @mathieuflamini ! What an amazing performance last night brather. I always knew you had an eye for goal. 😛😘”

Fabregas’s decision to pay tribute to an Arsenal player attracted a mixed response in the comments section, it’s fair to say.

Chelsea fans didn’t seem to be particularly bothered by the post, but it certainly divided passionate Arsenal supporters, many of whom took the opportunity to insult their former captain.

Arsenal fans shouldn't be angry with Fabregas

Fabregas was a firm favourite at the Emirates Stadium following his eight-year stint with the Gunners, but his decision to join Chelsea from Barcelona in 2014 ended up tarnishing his Arsenal legacy.

However, what some perturbed Arsenal fans fail to acknowledge is the fact Fabregas almost certainly would have re-joined the Gunners had Arsene Wenger given the green light to the transfer.

The veteran French coach rejected the opportunity to re-sign the World Cup winner due to Arsenal being well-stocked in attacking midfield positions.

It’s arguable whether or not that was a smart move - Fabregas was superb last season in Chelsea’s title-winning campaign but has been underwhelming at the start of this season - but it’s patently clear that Arsenal will always hold a special place in Cesc’s heart.

Arsenal fans: will you ever forgive Cesc Fabregas for joining Chelsea? Have your say by posting a comment in the box below!
