Mario Balotelli produces superb rabona pass against Genoa

Mario Balotelli is slowly but surely rediscovering his confidence at AC Milan following a disastrous season with Liverpool - and this was further evident on Sunday, when the Italy international produced an audacious rabona pass against Genoa.

Balotelli, who played the full 90 minutes, received the ball and drifted past his marker before picking out his Milan teammate Luiz Adriano with a breathtaking piece of skill.

The pass was perfectly weighted and allowed Adriano to fire a shot at goal, but Genoa goalkeeper Eugenio Lamanna denied the Rossoneri with a decent stop. (To see Balotelli’s pass, scroll down to the embedded YouTube video on this page).

Unfortunately for Balotelli and AC Milan, Genoa won the match 1-0 - but manager Sinisa Mihajlović will have been pleased with the overall contribution of the on-loan Liverpool forward.

Some Liverpool fans, meanwhile, seem to be missing the controversial striker judging by their reactions on social media today.

It seems some would even welcome the Italian back to Anfield next summer, when his loan deal with Milan expires, despite his failure to shine with the Reds last season.

Here are some of the best tweets.

Does Balotelli have a Liverpool future?

There is virtually no chance of Balotelli playing another match for Liverpool if Brendan Rodgers keeps his job beyond next summer.

However, Rodgers is under severe pressure and it seems unlikely the Northern Irish coach will last until the end of October, let alone the 2016-17 campaign.

Perhaps Jurgen Klopp, Carlo Ancelotti or whoever eventually replaces Rodgers will opt to take another look at Balotelli - but, in order for that to become a possibility, the enigmatic forward will need to score goals on a consistent basis in Serie A between now and the end of the season.
