Royston Drenthe has been told his move to Real Madrid is doomed to failure by his former coach, Erwin Koeman.

The versatile Drenthe completed his move from Feyenoord to Madrid last week, and has been touted as a possible replacement for departed left-back Roberto Carlos but Koeman, his coach for last season, does not think the 20-year-old has what it takes to make the grade with the Spanish champions.

"As a midfielder he could keep his head above the water, but he is vulnerable as left back," Koeman said. "I don´t think he will make it to become a regular at Real Madrid."
