Liverpool midfielder James Milner admits he was surprised to discover that he has run more than any other player in the Premier League at the start of this season.
Sky Sports recently released a list of Premier League players who have covered the most group during the opening weeks of the 2015-16 campaign - and top of the list, with a total of 74.8 kilometres, is Liverpool’s summer signing.
Milner, 29, finds himself just ahead of Newcastle United’s Jack Colback, Bournemouth’s Andrew Surman and Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey.

Asked if he was surprised to hear the stat, Milner told Liverpool’s official website: “Yeah - [although] not the way my legs have felt after some of the games!
“One of my strengths is getting around the field. I used to do cross-country when I was younger and I think that’s helped me. Even if you’re having a bad game and you’re not playing well, you can just work as hard as you can for the team and at least you’re contributing in some way.”
Milner finding his feet at Anfield
Milner, who was named as Liverpool’s vice-captain before the start of the season, has performed reasonably well for the Merseyside outfit after leaving Manchester City as a free agent in the summer.
The 29-year-old scored his first goal for Liverpool in the 3-2 win over Aston Villa last weekend, and the England international will be hoping to add to his tally over the next few weeks.
The under-fire Brendan Rodgers needs his influential players, like Milner, to step up to the plate following a disappointing start to the new season.
Victory over Villa was a good start, but a win over local rivals Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday would really endear Milner and his new teammates to the Liverpool faithful.
