Fans and pundits are starting to warm to Louis van Gaal’s tactics and although not always a thrill to watch, United are picking up results and sitting pretty at the top of the table.
Van Gaal likes his team to keep possession and wear down the opponents. His team have to be in control of the game, that way they can dictate the tempo. Possession isn’t everything but if you can convert the possession into chances and the chances into goals you have found a winning formula and Van Gaal’s team seem to have found that.
They have won their last three games, beating Southampton 3-2, Ipswich 3-0 in the League Cup and Sunderland 3-0 in the weekend's fixture.

They have won all those games in a pretty convincing fashion and dominated possession in each fixture too.
They showed a fighting spirit and real quality to defeat a tough Southampton side at St Mary's Stadium with Juan Mata scoring an excellent team goal. The Spaniard's goal reflected Van Gaal’s tactics and it was a tidy finish after a 45-pass move.
United have won their last two games 3-0 and showed that they can not only score goals but keep clean sheets too.
Manchester United now look to have perfect balance throughout the team with a mixture of experience and youth and plenty of quality!
Defensively they’ve looked solid and have four clean sheets in the Premier League so far.
David de Gea recently signed a new contract and was vital in their win against Southampton pulling off a string of superb saves. He is undeniably one of the best keepers in the world and debatably the best in the Prem.
Luke Shaw’s injury was a blow but the versatile Daley Blind will slip into that role, with Matteo Darmian and Marcos Rojo also possibilities to fill the void.
Blind is building an impressive centre back partnership with Chris Smalling who is coming on leaps and bounds. Smalling is continuing to improve and with Blind alongside him, it has given him the confidence to fulfil his potential. He is a great athlete and has the pace and strength to make up for any errors or misjudgements him or his teammates make.
The midfield is packed with experienced professionals who are excellent on the ball. The likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera offer protection to the defence too and that is another reason why they are keeping clean sheets and becoming very difficult to break down.
Juan Mata and Memphis Depay are both on great form, with Mata scoring three goals this season whilst Dutch wonder kid Depay has four.
Club and international captain Wayne Rooney is finding his best form and is full of confidence after breaking Bobby Charlton’s goal scoring record for England. He is building an impressive partnership with the new, £36 million teen, Anthony Martial, and has found a new lease of life back in his favoured number ten position. Rooney has five goals so far and will be targeting 20 more this season.
Martial has taken to the Premier League and life in Manchester like a duck to water and has shocked everyone with his excellent performances and clinical finishing. He has bagged himself four goals in five games and looks a real talent. With his lightening pace and cool head in front of goal he will excel in this United team.
Manchester United are top of the table and are starting to gain momentum. They’re full of confidence, morale is high and even with the few injury concerns, they still look in very good shape to make a real challenge for the title this season.
Winning is a habit and United need to just keep doing what they’re doing and there’s no reason they can’t keep this form up under the management of Van Gaal.
Van Gaal is a winner and will have high expectations of his players. If they underperform he will not think twice about dropping them due to the depth at his disposal.
With Manchester City losing their last two and Chelsea faltering this season, United must take this opportunity with both hands.
Arsenal at the Emirates will be their next league fixture which will not be easy, but with the quality in their side United, will be favourites to win this game too. If they beat Arsenal it will send a real message to all the others that they are serious title contenders!
