Derrick Rose undergoes surgery for fractured eye socket

Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose is to undergo surgery on his left eye socket after being elbowed in the face at practise. According to reports, the point guard will have an operation today, and any timetable as to when he will be available for selection will only become apparent once the surgery is completed. It’s probably the last thing Rose wanted ahead of the new season, with his recent career having been blighted by issues including an anterior cruciate ligament issue and a tear to the meniscus in his right knee. Not good. Meanwhile, in the NFL, the New England Patriots worked out running back Montee Ball yesterday, with the 24-year-old still looking for a new franchise having been cut by the Denver Broncos. It’s far from confirmation that a signing is imminent, but the rumours do suggest something might well be on the horizon. It could be that the Pats are looking for cover for LeGarrette Blount and Dion Lewis, but we’ll have to wait to get more on that.
