Football News
Ajax have admitted defeat in their attempt to sign Luis Suarez after failing to agree a fee with FC Groningen.

The Amsterdam club had offered 3.5million euros (£2.4million) for the 20-year-old Uruguay striker and though they later increased this to 6.5million euros (£4.4million), Groningen were holding out for 9.5million euros (£6.4million).

Groningen technical director Hans Nijland said: "If we were to agree on a transfer we think that it should have brought us a fee with which we could have strengthened our team. We think that Suarez is worth more than 6.5 million [euros]."
