Bayern Munich´s preparations for the new season were dealt a blow on Wednesday after suffering a 2-1 defeat against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Lining up without Luca Toni, Franck Ribery, Jose Ernesto Sosa and Mark van Bommel, Bayern fought back from a goal down when Bastian Schweinsteiger cancelled out Sascha Rosler´s opener, but Eugen Polanski secured the win for the second division side after the break.

Last season´s runners-up Schalke also disappointed on Wednesday, failing to break down third division Dynamo Dresden.
