Anthony Gerrard - former Cardiff City centre-back, currently unattached after leaving Huddersfield Town in the summer, and the cousin of Steven - claims he has been told who Fenway Sports Group will appoint to replace Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool after the Northern Irish coach was sacked on Sunday.
The 29-year-old, who famously missed a penalty in the shoot-out against Liverpool in the 2012 League Cup final, hinted the Reds’ next manager might not be Jurgen Klopp or Carlo Ancelotti - the two coaches linked strongly with the new vacancy over recent weeks.
Although Gerrard doesn’t reveal his source - so we can’t verify whether the information is reliable - the defender’s tweets were enough to spark a guessing game amongst the Liverpool supporters on the social media platform.

“Wow!! Who Iv just heard is getting the Liverpool job 😳,” Gerrard tweeted after revealing he would be disappointed if Klopp isn’t hired by FSG.
He continued: “You wouldn't believe me if I told you, it's that far out of the left field!”
Gerrard pleasantly surprised by information
After receiving a list of guesses from intrigued fans, Gerrard added: “People are throwing names but know one has hit the target yet.
“Only 2 people out of all the replies have got it right. That's how left field am saying.
“His record in the Kazakhstan Super league speaks for it's self! 😂 Seriously though I was surprised in a good way. About who it really is.”
Could it be Jurgen Klinsmann?
A look at the latest odds suggests the surprise name could be Jurgen Klinsmann, the current manager of the United States who has also had spells in charge of Germany and Bayern Munich.
The odds for Diego Simeone and Marcelo Bielsa have also shortened since Rodgers was fired.
However, at the time of writing, Klopp is still the overwhelming favourite to take the job at Anfield, followed by Ancelotti and the Ajax manager Frank de Boer.
Liverpool fans: would you be happy if FSG appoint Jurgen Klinsmann - or would it be a huge mistake? Have your say by leaving a comment in the box below!
