Football News

Chelsea fans, a good morning to you on this dreary Monday.

The weekend posted its fair share of shock results so there’s much to discuss in today’s round-up, not least, of course, the fact that Jose Mourinho almost lost his job.

Read on below for all the latest, watch the video above for the major headlines, and leave comments and thoughts in the box provided.

Mourinho's crisis

Mourinho might not be able to buy a win for Chelsea currently, but he’s still got enough in the tank to survive a crisis meeting.

According to the Daily Mail, the Special One convened with board members following the loss to Southampton and has been told that he has the full support of the powers that be at Stamford Bridge.

Roman Abramovich might be far from happy with recent results but Mourinho is Mourinho, after all, and it appears it will take more than a shaky start to see him ousted from his position.

Martial snub

Meanwhile, Anthony Martial rejected the chance to join Chelsea before signing for Manchester United, according to reports.

The Manchester Evening News claimed over the weekend that the Blues made an offer for the Frenchman - feasible, but unlikely given the options Mourinho already has.

In any case, Chelsea could have certainly done with his goals given how their season has started. A missed opportunity? You bet.

Player power

Lastly, Mourinho has opened up on his potential exit from west London in the foreseeable future and believes that a breakdown in player trust could be his downfall.

When asked what it would take for him to hand his notice to the Stamford Bridge hierarchy, the Special One confirmed that he would walk if the players no longer had faith in him.
