Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan claims former boss Jurgen Klopp is capable of managing 'many top clubs in the world'.

The Germany international has insisted that the enigmatic coach, who departed BVB at the end of last season, would be a great fit for Premier League outfit Liverpool.

Klopp is the red hot favourite to replace Brendan Rodgers at Anfield after the Northan Irishman was sacked as the club's manager on Sunday.

The experienced German manager enjoyed great success in the Bundesliga, so it's not entirely surprising that Gundogan has backed him to succeed at his next club.

As per Sky Sports, speaking in a press conference ahead of Germany's Euro 2016 qualifier against Republic of Ireland, Gundogan stated: “I’ve not had that much contact with him recently and I’ve not followed much of what has been said, but I think Klopp would be a great fit at many clubs and I believe also at Liverpool.

“Of course it’s something I can see happening. I think Klopp is capable of helping many top clubs in the world.”

Ideal for Liverpool

Klopp really is ideal for Liverpool in their pursuit of short and long term success. Ultimately, the 48-year-old proved his credentials at Signal Iduna Park over many years, so he could help turn the Reds into Premier League title contenders sooner rather than later.

It's a risk, of course; England's elite division will be an entirely different prospect for Klopp, but he has the personality and background to thrive on Merseyside.

He should get the best out of the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Co., so it could prove a match made in heaven.
