South African striker Glen Salmon is hopeful his switch to AZ Alkmaar will be finalised in the near future.

The 29-year-old, who finished last season on loan at NAC Breda, is a free agent with his FC Groningen contract almost at an end. AZ and Heerenveen are interested in acquiring the frontman´s services, with the player favouring a move to the former. The Alkmaar outfit claims it will sign Salmon if Danny Koevermans leaves the club.

"A top club, that is something you want to go to," Salmon told newspaper BN/De Stem. "As a player it´s normal that you want to become better. I heard that (AZ coach) Louis van Gaal is keen on me, which is nice to hear."
