Linda Pizzuti Henry has called Liverpool fans “the smartest supporters in the league” following the appointment of Jurgen Klopp.

The wife of John W Henry, Liverpool’s owner, said she was “thrilled for the future” of the club following Klopp’s arrival - and thanked fans for the patience they displayed after the sacking of Brendan Rodgers last weekend.

“Thrilled for the future of @LFC,” she wrote on Twitter in the early hours of this morning. “Thanks friends, for your patience. We have the smartest supporters in the league #KloppLFC #KloppForTheKop”

One suspects Linda labelled Liverpool supporters as the smartest in the league because they managed to guess Klopp was the man they were desperate to appoint.

Just last week - before Rodgers had been sacked - she refused to be tricked by a Liverpool fan who asked her to wish his “dad” a happy birthday. The picture was of Klopp - and Linda responded in style by tweeting: “I thought your dad’s birthday was in June”.

Liverpool fans delighted with Klopp

Something similar happened last month, when another cheeky Liverpool fan asked Linda to wish his “grandad” a happy birthday. On that occasion it was a photo of the former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, and John Henry’s wife replied with a simple, one-word answer: “Clever”.

From her tweets, it’s safe to assume that Ancelotti was on Liverpool’s radar, along with the man who was named as Liverpool’s new manager on Thursday night.

But the Anfield faithful could not be more delighted that Klopp is the man Fenway Sports Group have managed to bring to Merseyside - and they can’t wait for the roller coaster ride to begin.
