Former Wigan Athletic, Hull City and Fulham midfielder Jimmy Bullard admitted he is relishing life outside of football in an exclusive interview with GiveMeSport.

The 36-year-old, who retired from playing back in 2012, was speaking as part of Ladbrokes Rugby’s ‘Who’s Got The Balls’ campaign, which sees him pit himself against Rugby Union star Austin Healey in a series of challenges.

And Bullard admitted that, after a period of 18 months without much work, he is now comfortable working on other projects.

“If I’m honest during my playing days I never gave retirement much thought,” he said.

“For the first 18 months I was sat twiddling my thumbs, but since then I’ve been doing other projects that I really enjoy.

“I’ve tried punditry, been on the television and been on the radio but punditry has never really got my blood flowing.

“Being on 'I’m a Celebrity', being on TV in that way was always something I’ve wanted to do, and it really was a fantastic experience.”

Thriving television career

Bullard is also set to appear on his own television show where he and co-host Kiri Bloore will interview famous faces from the worlds of sport, music and television.

Entitled: "Jimmy Bullard Kicks off', the first episode is due to air on Friday, October 16 and will continue to air on Monday and Friday evenings.

“It’s something I’m really looking forward to doing, I’m really excited about it.

“It’s going to be a good laugh, with lots of good people, and I hope that everybody enjoys watching it.”

However the former footballer refused to be drawn on who may feature on his show, insisting that the guests are better to be kept secret.

“I don’t want to spoil the surprise for you, we’ve got some good people coming on,” he teased.

“I don’t want to give it away! You’re just going to have to wait and see!”
