Michael Owen has revealed on Twitter that he spotted Jurgen Klopp watching Liverpool’s Under-18 side lose to Stoke City this morning.

The newly-appointed Liverpool manager was photographed enjoying a couple of beers out on the town on Friday night, but was up nice and early this morning to watch the Reds’ promising young stars in action at The Academy.

"Popped down to the academy this morning to watch one of my lads,” Owen wrote on sportlobster, via Twitter. “Was good to see Klopp there watching the next generation of talent.”

Half-hour after Owen’s tweet, Liverpool confirmed that Klopp was in attendance at the Under-18’s match and published a photo of the German coach watching on from the stands.

Liverpool fans, already in awe at their new manager following his first press conference on Friday, appeared to be even more enamoured with the former Borussia Dortmund boss after he made a special effort to watch the club’s youngsters on only his second full day as the Reds’ manager.

Klopp faces tough opening fixture

It will be fascinating to see what changes Klopp makes to the Liverpool starting line-up when he takes charge of his new team for the first time against Tottenham on October 17.

Every player in the Liverpool squad has been offered a fresh chance at Anfield following the arrival of Klopp, who will be desperate to begin his tenure with a victory at White Hart Lane.

However, it promises to be a tough opening fixture for Brendan Rodgers’ successor. The last time Spurs played at home, they hammered Premier League title favourites Manchester City 4-1.

One suspects Klopp would be more than happy to take a point from his first fixture - but with expectation levels sky high, Liverpool fans will be hoping their new manager can begin his reign with an auspicious win.
