Mainz 05 predict Liverpool’s new two managers after Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp’s former employers, Mainz 05, have posted an amusing image on Facebook, guessing that Liverpool’s next two managers will be Thomas Tuchel and Martin Schmidt.

Klopp started his managerial career at Mainz 05, where he spent seven years before joining Borussia Dortmund in 2008. The recently-appointed Liverpool boss was eventually succeeded at Dortmund last summer by Tuchel, who himself left Mainz for Signal Iduna Park at the end of last season.

Mainz 05 are now managed by Schmidt - and the Swiss coach’s current employers are predicting that he could follow in the same footsteps as Klopp and Tuchel.

The Bundesliga club posted a photoshopped image of the three managers side-by-side in Liverpool tracksuit tops, with the year 2015 above Klopp, 2020 above Tuchel and 2025 above Schmidt.

“Back to the Reds!” the caption reads. “1. FSV Mainz 05, followed by Borussia Dortmund and then off to Liverpool FC. That's how it works, right?”

Tuchel and Schmidt are both impressing

Liverpool fans are not thinking about life after Klopp just yet. They’re all hoping their new manager goes on to enjoy a wonderful spell at Anfield, delivering the attractive football and silverware that Fenway Sports Group have hired him for.

It should be noted, though, that Tuchel has made a big impression at Borussia Dortmund since taking the reins from Klopp in the summer.

BVB started the season playing some brilliant football but have tailed off slightly in recent weeks. A 5-1 defeat to Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich before the international break outlines the huge gulf in class between Pep Guardiola’s side and the rest of the league at present.

Schmidt, meanwhile, has won four of his opening eight league matches with Mainz, who currently occupy eighth place in the Bundesliga table.
