How WWE's Diva Division should look for 2016

For the majority of 2015, the buzzword of the Divas Division in WWE has been 'revolution'. With the outstanding work of women's wrestlers in NXT, including this past week's incredible Iron Man match between Bayley and Sasha Banks, the company has been keen to demonstrate that their female athletes are an important commodity.

However, in spite of a few flashes of brilliance and some new blood on the main roster, what has really been revolutionary about the Divas this year. They are still afforded limited time in segments, have endured woefully contrived storylines, and many fans have been left apathetic to their efforts both in the ring and on the microphone.

Whilst Charlotte is now the Divas Champion, she looks a shell of the huge star she was in NXT due to being portrayed as nothing more than Ric Flair's daughter. Becky Lynch has taken the role of her doting sidekick, whilst Sasha Banks has been simultaneously flourishing in NXT and been relegated to the sidelines on WWE television.

No matter how much they proclaim this year has been a revolutionary one, they won't pull the wool over fans' eyes. Yet, the components are all there to make the 2016 Divas roster one that cannot help but garner the attention of the fans. Both on the main show and developmental, WWE can boast an enviable collection of the best women's wrestlers on the planet. Given any worthwhile direction, they would easily grab the attention of the audience.

So, here is what the Divas roster should look like to make next year one that is truly revolutionary for their female stars.

Charlotte (Heel)

The current face of the Divas Division, Charlotte's best work in NXT was as the arrogant heel who promoted herself as genetically superior. Her current shtick of simply 'wooing' and using her dad's moves has not developed a connection to her.

Therefore, in 2016 she should undoubtedly turn against her father Ric Flair, saying she's better than he ever was, and carry that momentum into her own smarmy character.

Sasha Banks (Tweener)

Charlotte might be the Divas Champion, but there is no doubt who the Boss of women's wrestling is right now. Sasha Banks should be employed as a tweener character due to her unwavering popularity and arrogant persona allowing her to battle both babyfaces and heels.

Given the right exposure and time to showcase her in-ring prowess, Banks could become the female equivalent of The Rock for years to come.

Paige (Heel)

Paige is undoubtedly at her best as a heel. As a babyface, her screaming during matches and repetitive series of moves made her bland. Her recent work as a self-righteous, bratty heel is a step in the right direction.

But, the Brit needs to recapture the viciousness and spite that made her captivating in NXT, and then she can take her rightful place among the elite of women's wrestling.

Nikki Bella (Heel)

There is no doubting that Nikki Bella was born to play the heel, and 2015 was a great year for her. She has proven many of her naysayers wrong with solid in-ring showings and a great run as Divas Champion.

Personally, I wouldn't change anything about her character going into the new year, as she naturally gets under the skins of fans and that is a good thing.

Brie Bella (Babyface)

Whilst Nikki can continue her overbearing heel status, it is time to let Brie Bella loose as a major babyface. This should have taken place in 2014 after the feud with Stephanie McMahon, and the crowd clearly still have a residual warmness towards her.

Brie is incredibly passionate when performing and has a likable personality, which would unquestionably get over with the fans. The time is right to split the twins permanently and allow her to revel in the adulation of the WWE Universe.

Bayley (Babyface)

Although she is currently sitting proudly atop the NXT totem pole, it will not be long before Bayley is on the main roster and stealing fans' hearts there too. A born babyface with a lovable character, Bayley could become the biggest female fan favorite in WWE since Lita.

Her work in the ring is now on par with the ladies promoted to the main roster this past Summer, and her infectious charm will make her the Daniel Bryan of the Divas.

Naomi & Tamina (Heel)

Best kept together as a package, Naomi & Tamina have been brushed aside far too often in this Divas Revolution. Naomi has really come into her stride as a heel, and Tamina works very well as the intimidating bodyguard character.

Give them the right angle and opponent, Naomi's brash egotism could lead to a championship reign, especially with her muscle by her side.

Becky Lynch (Babyface)

Becky Lynch is an enchanting underdog, someone who can be relied upon for great matches and funny segments to keep the audience entertained. Lynch has all the right tools and connects with the crowd through her humor and natural charm.

The flame-haired Irishwoman would be ideal for a storyline where she comes very close on a number of occasions to win the big one, before finally climbing the mountain following a long, grueling journey.

Natalya (Babyface)

A veteran, savvy ring technician, Natalya has seen it all in the WWE and has been inflicted with some terrible gimmicks throughout the years. Now is the time to put her in the position of a ring general who will help others get over and look good for the future.

Natalya certainly has a lot of time left on the big stage, but would be best served as experienced enhancement talent, along the lines of a Chris Jericho, in this new revolution.

Alicia Fox (Heel)

With AJ Lee no longer in WWE and Paige shifting to a more self-righteous character, Alicia Fox is in prime position to return to her crazy, manic character she portrayed across 2014. It was compelling and funny due to her unexpected antics.

However, like Natalya her experience makes her more suited for an enhancement role for the other ladies on the roster. Fox is a dependable hand in the ring and can be relied upon to make them look fantastic in matches.

Asuka (Babyface)

After seeing only one match at the recent Takeover: Respect, Asuka has already shown me enough that she should be on the main roster and a multi-time Divas Champion. The Japanese star has the charisma and skill to be the biggest thing in women's wrestling today.

A submission specialist with wicked strikes, power and a terrific look, Asuka could be the babyface brutalizer the Divas Division has been crying out for - professional wrestling's equivalent to Ronda Rousey.

Dana Brooke (Heel)

Whilst still developing her in-ring work, Dana Brooke has demonstrated aptly that she can carry the character of an overconfident heel. She flaunts her 'perfect' body at every opportunity, ensuring she is emphatically unlikable for the fans.

She's an ideal opponent against the girl next door characters like Bayley and Brie Bella, and by next year should be polished enough to make a real impression on the Divas Division.

Do you agree that this is the ideal Divas Division for 2016? Who else would you like to see involved in this revolution? Leave a comment below.
