Manchester United could swoop for Anderlecht midfielder Youri Tielemans, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims that the Red Devils have been keeping tabs on the exciting prospect from Belgium.

In fact, the Mail say that United boss Louis van Gaal believes the teenager could act as a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick, who is approaching the final stages of his career.

Carrick, 34, has been an ever-present in the Old Trafford set up for some time, but may well be replaced in the middle of the park over the coming years.

That could lead the United hierarchy to 18-year-old Tielemans, who has gone from strength-to-strength in his short career so far.

The talented teenager has reportedly been watched by the European trio of Chelsea, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund in recent months, so United may well have to move quickly to get their man.

Class of Carrick

Ultimately, Van Gaal and Co. are right to be planning for life after Carrick. The former Tottenham ace has been a wonderful servant to the Red Devils.

It has been no secret that United have struggled in the midfield department for a lengthy period of time, but Carrick has been the club's standout performer.

His influence in Manchester really can't be underestimated and he will be missed when he eventually hangs up his boots.

What have you seen of Tielemans? Is he the man to replace Carrick? Have your say below!
