Arsenal are ready to make Alexis Sanchez the best-paid player at the Emirates Stadium - with the Chile international set to leapfrog Mesut Ozil into pole position.

This is according to the Daily Mail, who understand that Sanchez will earn more than the £140,000-a-week that Ozil currently receives.

Sanchez earns £130,000-a-week at present, but Arsenal are keen to tie the world-class South American down to a new long-term deal after an excellent debut season with the Gunners.

The 26-year-old scored 21 goals in 54 appearances for Arsenal last season, and has already found the back of the net six times during the opening weeks of the current campaign.

Sanchez looked a little tired during August and September - presumably because of his exploits with Chile at the Copa America in the summer - but he was back to his brilliant best prior to the international break.

Debatable whether Ozil also deserves a pay rise

The former Udinese and Barcelona star scored a hat-trick against Leicester City, another goal against Olympiakos, and two stunning goals in the 3-0 win over Manchester United.

The report adds that Ozil is also in line for a pay rise - although it could be argued how much the Germany international deserves one - but it’s Sanchez who is set to become the club’s highest-paid star.

Ozil has flattered to deceive on too many occasions - particularly in the biggest fixtures - since arriving at Arsenal from Real Madrid for £42.5 million just over two years ago.

However, against United he was magnificent. If the 26-year-old can replicate that level of performance on a weekly basis, he will once again be talked about as one of the world’s great No. 10s.
