Former Portsmouth manager Alain Perrin has been named as the new manager of French champions Lyon.

Perrin was sacked by Pompey in November 2005 after winning just four of 20 matches in the Barclays Premiership and has since been coaching French side Sochaux.

The 50-year-old takes over from former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier, who resigned after steering Lyon to a sixth successive Ligue 1 title.
