Manchester United fans responded in style after the Red Devils took to social media to tweet Thiago Alcantara's praise for goalkeeper David de Gea.

Following Spain's 1-0 win in Ukraine last night, Thiago labelled his compatriot as 'sensational' after the United shot-stopper picked up the man of the match award.

The United star's fine performance helped Spain secure their ninth win in European Championship Qualifying as they cruised to top spot in Group C.

De Gea had to watch on from the bench as Iker Casillas took to the pitch in the national side's 4-0 win against Luxembourg last Friday, but the Red Devils ace certainly hogged the headlines last night.

One thing is for sure, Thiago is an admirer of De Gea, as the Bayern man stated: “The word sensational doesn't do David's performance justice. He was magnificent and saved everything that came his way.”

Twitter response

Unsurprisingly, as Manchester United took to Twitter to reveal the words of Thiago, fans asked the club to sign the talented central midfielder.

There's history

United and Thiago have a history, of course. Under the David Moyes regime, the Red Devils were heavily linked with the dynamic midfielder, who was starring at Barcelona at the time, but he ended up completing a move to German giants Bayern Munich.

The Red Devils, meanwhile, ended up securing the services of Belgium international Marouane Fellaini.
