France winger Florent Malouda was named French player of the year on Sunday on an evening when his former international team-mate Zinedine Zidane collected a lifetime´s achievement award.

Malouda has had an excellent season with Lyon, helping them to a sixth consecutive title, but the 26-year-old has nevertheless indicated he wants to leave the club this summer.

He beat off opposition from Lens player Seydou Keita, Lille´s Abdulkader Keita and Toulouse´s Johan Elmander to win the award.
