Football News

Alexis Sanchez was linked with a move to Real Madrid earlier this week and Arsenal fans had every right to start panicking.

The Chile international has been in sensational form this season, scoring nine goals in his last five games for both club and country, and is considered key to the Gunners' Premier League title chances.

News of interest from Real Madrid is unlikely to be welcome at the Emirates, but Sanchez has done his very best to make sure everyone in north London knows he is committed to the club.

"I have no idea what the media are saying, but I feel comfortable at Arsenal," he told reporters. "I'm happy with my team-mates and the city of London is beautiful. I'm not going to change, I'm very happy.

“I always want to be the best at everything I do. I'm never happy with what I do, I always want to give more. My mum is always my coach. She phones me and tells me to shoot at goal more often.”

New deal

And it seems Sanchez will be given the perfect opportunity to confirm his commitment in the coming weeks with Arsene Wenger set to offer his star man a new and improved contract.

A report in the Daily Mail claimed the Arsenal manager was ready to make Sanchez the best-paid player at the club, offering him an increase on his £130,000-a-week wages that will launch him above Mesut Ozil's £140,000-a-week deal.

In fact, both Sanchez and his German team-mate are likely to enter talks with the Gunners with regards to extending their deals. Both are currently tied down until 2018, but with financial security at an all-time high at the Emirates, Wenger wants his best players committed for the long-term.
