WWE made the conscious decision to put Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns on the same side since May 2014 on Raw this week, but was there more to this than meets the eye?
Shawn Michaels almost goaded Seth Rollins into making the decision to partner his former teammates and even had Renee Young interview Rollins backstage so that he could state that this was not a Shield reunion, but what exactly was this?
WHAT'S BEST FOR RATINGS
That is exactly what this was, WWE knows that the one card they hold right now is The Shield Reunion. There are still fans online that hate Rollins for turning on his teammates over a year ago and they knew that if they put Rollins, Reigns and Ambrose in a match together then they would get instant ratings on their go home episode.

That being said, WWE played the match incredibly well. Rollins maintained his character throughout and Reigns and Ambrose managed to bounce off that regardless. In a way, fans got exactly what they wanted, it was a Shield reunion, but it was one that made sense with how far these superstars have come.
They are no longer the hungry NXT superstars desperate to make a splash in WWE and willing to squash anyone who got in their way. In a shocking but ironic twist, they have now become the very figures they were fighting against less than three years ago.
THE SHIELD REUNION?
Next month marks three years since The Shield made their debut at Survivor Series 2012 when they took out Ryback in his match against CM Punk and made a massive impact on their first night in WWE.
They then went on to dominate for almost two years following this, until the night after Payback 2014 when Seth Rollins joined The Authority and turned his back on his teammates and brothers.
Ever since then, the WWE Universe has been amist with theories about reunions and how WWE could put these three back together. WWE even teased it at Payback this year when Reigns, Ambrose, Rollins and Orton faced off in a fatal four way.
Sadly, last night proved that a Shield Reunion is not even close to on the cards for WWE anytime soon. Regardless of there being a common enemy, The Shield is not on the same page, which means we could be waiting a while if we ever want to see the black clad trio grace our screens again.
