Ex-Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit claims he no longer recognises Spain international Cesc Fabregas.

Speaking on BT Sport last night, as per the London Evening Standard, Petit claims Fabregas appears to be 'very heavy' and is lacking in inspiration and creativity.

Fabregas enjoyed a splendid opening period to last season as he contributed in terms of goals and assists, but he failed to replicate that form in the latter stages of the club's title-winning campaign.

And with the dynamic midfielder struggling to produce the goods once again in west London this term, it's not entirely surprising that Petit has questioned his credentials.

Much like Fabregas, Petit starred for both Arsenal and Chelsea, but the former France international clearly hasn't been impressed with playmaker's recent performances.

Speaking on BT Sport, he stated: "He’s looked from the start of the season very heavy - just like the same way he finished last season.

"He looks heavy with no inspiration, no creativity. I don’t recognise him any more."

Fabregas' situation at Stamford Bridge is unusual. It must be concerning for Jose Mourinho that the ex-Arsenal man hasn't been able to replicate his early form of last season.

With class and guile, Fabregas should be unlocking defences week in, week out, but it's just not happening right now. Unfortunately, for Chelsea, the Spaniard isn't the only man struggling to find consistency to his game.

The likes of Fabregas, Eden Hazard and Nemanja Matic must step up imminently at Stamford Bridge.
