Manchester United would have benefited from the playmaking wizardry of Juan Mata during their draw with CSKA Moscow last night, but Louis van Gaal has revealed just why he dropped the Spaniard. The Dutchman told how he believed Mata was in need of a rest having been an ever-present in the starting XI so far this campaign. The midfielder was replaced at half-time during the 3-0 victory over Everton at the weekend, but it would appear that has absolutely nothing to do with his form. As a result he should be fit for the Manchester derby this weekend. Moving on, Paul Scholes has had his say on what will make Wayne Rooney better, and he thinks it’s pace. The former Old Trafford midfielder defended his old teammate, who hasn’t been in the best form, stating that he needed quick movement around him.
