Anthony Martial scored five goals for Manchester United quicker than Cristiano Ronaldo

Anthony Martial might not scale the same lofty heights as Cristiano Ronaldo during his career, but everything the Manchester United striker touches seems to turn to gold at the moment.

The France international, who cost the Red Devils an initial £36 million in the summer, scored his fifth goal for his new employers against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Five goals in just nine appearances for one of the world’s biggest clubs is a hugely impressive statistic for a 19-year-old. Indeed, it blows one particular Ronaldo stat out of the water. Scroll down this page to find out more.

Ronaldo, according to the Mirror, needed a whopping 39 games to score his first five goals for the Red Devils.

It’s taken Martial 30 fewer games to achieve the same feat - playing in a team with arguably less talent than the Manchester United side of 2003-04.

Here's another impressive stat...

Martial should follow Ronaldo's lead

Ronaldo scored six goals in all competitions during his debut campaign at Old Trafford. People remember his mesmeric debut against Bolton Wanderers, but often forget that for several seasons he was raw and frustrating.

As time went on, though, his decision-making skills improved, he bulked up, cut out the playacting - to an extent - learned to work for the team and became a goal machine thanks to hours of practice on the training ground.

Ronaldo became the player he is today because of his exemplary work ethic - although his natural talent certainly helped, too.

Martial can become world-class

Martial is also blessed with natural talent and he should follow the example of Ronaldo by working hard off the pitch to fulfil his immense potential.

The teenager appears to have everything required to become a world-class forward and few Manchester United fans would be shocked if he finishes his debut campaign at Old Trafford with 20 goals to his name.
