Mamadou Sakho has thanked Liverpool fans for their continued support on Instagram following his Man of the Match performance against Rubin Kazan in the Europa League on Wednesday night.

Supporters were in agreement that the France international was the best performer in Jurgen Klopp’s first match at Anfield since becoming Liverpool manager.

And Sakho, who is beginning to establish himself as a key player for the Reds, took to Instagram after the match to pay tribute to the Anfield faithful.

The 25-year-old posted a collage of photos, alongside the message: “Thank you to all of you for your support tonight !!! 👏🏿 #YNWA #scousers #Anfield #Liverpool @majdasakho @sakhofamily”.

Sakho has only managed to show glimpses of his true quality following his big-money move from Paris Saint-Germain in 2013 - until the start of this season, at least. If he carries on like this, it won’t be long before he’s talked about as being one of the Premier League’s best centre-backs.

Focus turns to Southampton

Next up for Sakho and his Liverpool teammates are Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

Klopp will be desperately hoping to secure his first victory for the Reds in his third match in charge since succeeding Brendan Rodgers earlier this month.

In order for that to happen, the German coach will need the likes of Sakho to be focused and in top form.
