Mario Balotelli has further endeared himself to both Manchester City and Liverpool supporters by posting a collage on Instagram of Manchester United’s infamous 6-1 defeat to the Citizens at Old Trafford in October 2011.

Balotelli scored two goals in City’s memorable victory - this was the game in which he unveiled his ‘Why Always Me’ t-shirt - as United slumped to their worst home defeat since February 1955.

The Italy international, who is currently on a season-long loan deal at AC Milan from Liverpool, posted the collage ahead of the next Manchester derby, which takes place at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Balotelli wrote: “Who can forget this? #unforgettable #daretozlatan.”

The striker then received a host of comments from delighted City and Liverpool fans for his cheeky post at United’s expense.

United are the narrow favourites this weekend

The last time the two sides met, however, it was Manchester United who secured all three points thanks to a comprehensive 4-2 victory.

Louis van Gaal’s side, as hosts, head into this weekend’s fixture as the narrow favourites - probably because City will be without two of their key players: Sergio Aguero and David Silva.

City's danger men

United, though, will still need to be wary of the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling. Both summer signings have started very well indeed at the Etihad Stadium and will pose a real threat to the Red Devils’ back-line.

Anthony Martial

City, meanwhile, will need to pay particularly close attention to man of the moment, Anthony Martial.

The France international scored his fifth goal in just his ninth appearance for United against CSKA Moscow on Wednesday night and will be looking to add to his tally against Manuel Pellegrini’s men.
