Arsenal fans have hailed Mesut Ozil on Twitter after the German playmaker produced an excellent assist for Olivier Giroud’s opening goal against Everton this evening.

Ozil swung a delightful left-footed cross into the box and Giroud was on hand to head the ball past Tim Howard in the Everton goal.

Laurent Koscielny then doubled the Gunners’ lead two minutes later, but Ross Barkley set up an intriguing second half by reducing the deficit to one goal before the half-time interval.

Ozil has provided seven assists in the Premier League this season alone - it seems the former Real Madrid playmaker has finally found his feet at the Emirates Stadium following two underwhelming campaigns in north London.

The 27-year-old has already contributed more Premier League assists this term than he managed throughout the whole course of last season but, given the immense talent he possesses, he really ought to score more goals.

Arsenal fans may not like to hear it, but Ozil was disappointing in his first two full seasons at the Emirates.

There’s a reason why he is no longer widely regarded as the best No. 10 in world football - and it’s not just because he no longer plies his trade at the Bernabeu.

However, if Ozil can continue his current rich vein of form then there’s no reason why he can’t restore his reputation as one of the best playmakers on the planet.
