Liverpool fans have 'really taken' to defender Mamadou Sakho, according to club hero Mark Lawrenson.
Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo, Lawrenson claims the France international is improving as a result of the club's faithful showing their faith in him.
Sakho has been one of Liverpool's standout players throughout the course of the campaign so far and has enjoyed a fine start under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

In fact, Lawrenson claims the 25-year-old is now a 'beast' and believes he's quickly becoming a 'cult figure' on Merseyside.
The former Liverpool man wrote: "Look at Mamadou Sakho on Thursday. He played well at Tottenham, and the fans responded to how he got stuck in against Rubin Kazan. Okay, the Russians technically didn't play with a striker in the second half so Sakho wasn't exactly up against much.
"But the fans loved his run when he beat three or four opposing players. They've really taken to him, and Sakho is improving as a result. It also helps that he is playing more regularly. It has made a massive difference to his game.
"Sakho struggled a bit from being lumped in with everybody who was signed two summers ago. Everything has to be instant these days, and too many people were quick to judge.
"You can't play your way into a team or feel your way into a new team. What's clear now, though, is Sakho is a beast.
"He will have the odd moment where he looks ungainly and he'll always have a mistake in him. But he's going to become a cult figure – if he isn't already."
Progression under Klopp
Sakho really has come to prominence at the club recently. The towering defender now appears to be the No.1 centre-back at Anfield and there's no reason why he won't go from strength-to-strength under the guidance of Klopp.
The revered coach should hand him the platform to shine over the coming years, so it's up to Sakho to continue to prove his credentials.
Liverpool fans will now be hoping their beloved star produces yet another fine performance at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea on Saturday.
