Bryant's Saunders tribute

It’s fair to say that the passing of Minnesota Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders has greatly affected all those associated with the NBA, and the legendary Kobe Bryant has continued to lead the tributes.

Minnesota Timberwolves v Los Angeles Lakers

During last night’s season opener between the T-Wolves and the Los Angeles Lakers the latter team donned specially designed shirts during the warm-up.

Bryant led his side out wearing a jersey with the caption Flip on the front. In fitting style, the Timberwolves won the clash 112-111.

Curry steals the show

Elsewhere in the league, it was Stephen Curry who stole the show during the first round of fixtures as the Golden State Warriors recorded a fairly comfortable 111-95 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.

The reigning champions looked in good form as they began their title defence, whilst Curry was exceptional, bagging himself 40 points in the process of being so.

Roethlisberger return

Across to the NFL, confidence is growing that Ben Roethlisberger will start for the Pittsburgh Steelers when they play host to the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday.

Pittsburgh Steelers v St. Louis Rams

A return for Big Ben looks very much on the cards, with trusted Steelers writer Ed Bouchette tweeting ‘Ben is playing’. The veteran quarterback’s comeback will certainly help his franchise, who are so far four to three for the season.

Caldwell on Cooters promotion

The bulk of Lombardi’s problems are believed to have stemmed from his inability to get the best out of Stafford - Caldwell believes Cooters can succeed where he failed.
