Arsene Wenger: Pep Guardiola wanted to sign for Arsenal

He’s seen by many as the ideal successor to Arsene Wenger, but few Arsenal fans are aware that the club almost signed Pep Guardiola back when he was a player. Wenger has confirmed that the Spaniard wanted to move to the Gunners when he was in his early thirties, but Arsenal had the likes of Patrick Vieira and Emmanuel Petit so the deal never materialised. Guardiola’s since gone on to become one of the most revered managers in world football. It could be that his adventure in north London has yet to come. Back to present, and ironically another midfielder is trying to broker a move to Arsenal. Napoli midfielder Jorginho is open to said transfer, according to his agent, with Wenger potentially having had him scouted in the recent past. The priority for the player is to break onto the international scene with either Brazil or Italy, but he might consider a transfer come January.
