If you didn’t know that Owen Hargreaves played for Bayern Munich before Wednesday evening, you certainly do now.

The former Manchester United midfielder went a little over the top with his praise for the Champions League favourites as they thrashed Arsenal 5-1 at the Allianz Arena.

Two weeks ago, the former England international sent Twitter into meltdown by claiming Jerome Boateng was the world’s best defender - and football fans were up in arms with the BT Sport co-commentator once again on Wednesday night.

Hargreaves was quoted by The Sun as saying: “David Alaba has the best long range shot in the world.”

The versatile Bayern Munich did, admittedly, score a wonderful goal against the Gunners; however, Twitter still thought Hargreaves went way too far with his praise.

Hargreaves was also quoted as saying: “Xabi Alonso is the best corner-taker in the world.”

This was particularly amusing as there was one moment in the match where Alonso - who, of course, is a brilliant set-piece specialist - literally kicked the flag while taking a corner.

But Hargreaves didn’t direct all of hyperbole towards Bayern Munich players. He also reserved some for Arsenal’s German playmaker Mesut Ozil.

“Mesut Ozil is technically one of the best players you’ll ever see,” the enthusiastic pundit added.

Arsenal supporters probably agreed with that particular assessment - but it’s far to say other football fans found it hilarious.
