Marc-Andre ter Stegen channels his inner Manuel Neuer against BATE Borisov

Barcelona were in cruise control on Wednesday evening as they brushed aside BATE Borisov to all but guarantee qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The Blaugrana were totally dominant from start to finish, and Liverpool target Marc-Andre ter Stegen could be forgiven for wanting to be involved in the action.

The goalkeeper, who has reportedly been highlighted as a replacement for Simon Mignolet at Anfield, had an extremely quiet night as Barca's Belarusian opponents had just two shots on target.

On the stroke of half-time, with the Catalan giants holding a 1-0 lead, the young German decided it was time to get involved in the action; a la Manuel Neuer.

The Germany number two raced off his line to collect a loose ball near the corner flag, before turning past Dmitri Mozolevski. Watch the video below.

According to a report in Spanish newspaper Sport, the former Borussia Monchengladbach stopper has been touted as a future arrival at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly unsure about the ability of Simon Mignolet and Adam Bogdan and sees Barca's cup goalkeeper as the perfect replacement.

Ter Stegen has had to make do with a bit-part role at the Camp Nou and failed to establish himself as Barca's number one in the absence of Claudio Bravo at the start of the season.

The German is seen as a star of the future in Catalunya but may begin to become frustrated with his lack of league action.

The pull of Klopp could prove to be a strong bargaining chip for the Reds, but the keeper will not come cheap; the 23-year-old has a €80 million (£56 million) release clause in his contract.
