Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur set to fight for Khouma Babacar transfer

Liverpool are set to undertake a transfer battle with Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur for the services of Fiorentina man Khouma Babacar, according to reports.

TalkSPORT are claiming to have knowledge that the striker wants to leave La Viola for England, with his current club apparently resigned to losing their star man in the near future.

Babacar's good form

Babacar has enjoyed a strong start to this campaign, helping Fiorentina to the summit of Serie A with no less than four goals in six domestic appearances.

We’ll hastily point out that the report in question doesn’t clarify if the battle for Babacar will commence when the January transfer window opens or if it will be a summer affair instead.

One thing that can’t be questioned, however, is the need of both of the sides in question - Spurs and Liverpool - when it comes to adding more firepower to their respective ranks.

More firepower

It’s true that Jurgen Klopp boasts the likes of Danny Ings, Christian Benteke and Daniel Sturridge, but the latter has endured his fair share of issues relating to injuries of late, and Ings has already been ruled out for the rest of the season.

That said, it could easily be argued that Spurs’ need is greater. Harry Kane remains the de-facto superstar in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad at White Hart Lane, but one gets the feeling they’ll need more than him if they’re to break back into the top four.

We wish we had figures for you to digest, but the sad truth is we really don’t at the moment. Instead, here’s some of the best fan interaction on Twitter concerning Babacar. If that doesn’t peak your interest, nothing will.

And, to finish us off, here's a closer look at the prospect:
