Jurgen Klopp fell to his first defeat in charge of Liverpool as Crystal Palace took all three points away from Merseyside.

Alan Pardew's men took the lead through Yannick Bolasie and Scott Dann's header secured the win after Philippe Coutinho had drawn the Reds level.

Liverpool had the lion's share of possession but were extremely wasteful in front of goal as they had 22 shots compared to Palace's nine.

Despite their monopoly of the ball, the Anfield club could only register four shots on target - the same number as their opponents.

One player, in particular, was singled out for criticism on social media by sections of Liverpool's support.

Having come off the bench to score the third goal at Stamford Bridge, Christian Benteke was handed a starting spot Sunday's game.

But the £32.5 million summer signing had a tough day at Anfield and scuppered a number of good chances.

The Belgian left many Liverpool fans cursing their luck on what proved to be a frustrating evening.

Even before Sunday's game, it was clear to see that Klopp needed a new striker in the January transfer window.

Danny Ings is out for the season while Daniel Sturridge continues to struggle with a knock.

Benteke is a top-class striker, but can not do it all on his own and Divock Origi is hardly providing a challenge.

The Reds had enough chances to take all three points and would have disposed of Palace had the big Belgian taken the chances that fell to him.
