Ryan Shawcross trolls Diego Costa on Twitter after Stoke beat Chelsea

When Diego Costa can not score, he does his best to have an impact on the game in any way he can.

He did it exceptionally well against Arsenal in September, helping Chelsea to a 2-0 win by playing a significant role in getting Gabriel Paulista sent off. But, despite his best efforts against Stoke City, he could neither score nor sufficiently agitate his opponent, Ryan Shawcross.

The Brazilian striker is – much like his team – having a stinker of a season but ironically chose to accuse his opponent of stinking up the Britannia Stadium during Stoke's 1-0 win over the Blues on Saturday.

The altercation was caught on camera and it is clear what Costa is suggesting to Shawcross. The defender certainly did not look in the mood for such childish denunciations during the game but was happy to laugh about it that evening. His wife, Kath Shawcross, helped him see the funny side.

The pair were out celebrating Stoke's hard-fought victory on Saturday night and could not resist having a sly dig at Costa on her social media account.

In a photo clearly showing the Potters captain having the last laugh, she tweeted: "Made sure @Ryanshawy put his deodorant on this evening 🙈🙈🙈 "

Time to grow up

Costa's antics were backed by Jose Mourinho following Chelsea's victory over the Gunners, but this latest incident only served to damage the club's reputation as well as his own.

The 27-year-old has scored only twice in the Premier League and grows more and more angry with every missed opportunity. Indeed, he appears more concerned with getting opponents sent off than scoring goals.

It is one of many problems Mourinho must solve to save his job in west London.
